Kaka’ako & Iolani Palace
Explore urban Honolulu, enjoy beachfront scenic views, and appreciate Hawaii’s Historical landmarks on this local city ride. The Kaka’ako & Iolani Palace ride features shopping at Ward Village and SALT, Iolani Palace, the King Kamehameha Statue, Kawaiaha’o Church, The Mission Homes Museum, Washington Place, Saint Andrew’s Cathedral, Ala Moana Beach Park, Magic Island and the Hilton Lagoon. It’s a great route for taking in Honolulu’s highlights, and you’ll enjoy a protected bike lane along King Street for much of the experience.
DIRECTIONS:
- Turn Right onto Paoakalani Ave.
- Turn Left onto Ala Wai Blvd. and follow the bike path along the Ala Wai Canal
- Turn Right onto McCully St. at the McCully Bridge
- Turn Left onto King St. and enjoy the protected King Street Cycle Track
- (Note that the automobile traffic on King St. is one way and will be moving against you. The cycle track is two-way.)
- Turn Right onto Victoria St.
- Turn Left onto Beretania St.
- Turn Left onto Punchbowl St.
- Turn Right onto the bike path just before you reach the Public Library that leads to Likelike St. and Iolani Palace
- (Park your bike at Iolani Palace and explore all of the Historic Downtown landmarks like the King Kalakaua Statue, Mission Houses Museum, and Kawaiaha’o Church, all within one city block of each other!)
- Exit Iolani Palace via Mililani St. and head towards the ocean
- Turn Left onto Halekauwila St.
- Turn Right onto Keawe St.
- Turn Left onto Auahi St.
- (As you pass through the up-and-coming Kaka’ako neighborhood, keep your eyes peeled for the many murals that are updated each year at the POW! WOW! Hawai’i festival. Stop for food, drinks, and shopping at SALT Kaka’ako or Ward Village.)
- Turn Right onto Cooke St.
- (To explore Kaka’ako Waterfront Park, cross Ala Moana Blvd. and turn Left onto Ilalo St. to ride along the paved oceanfront park.)
- Turn Left onto Ala Moana Blvd. towards Magic Island and Waikiki
- Turn right onto Holomoana St. to ride along the Ala Wai Boat Harbor towards the Hilton Lagoon
- Turn into the Hilton Lagoon at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and ride along Waikiki Beach behind Fort DeRussy
- Turn left onto the footpath next to the US Army Museum and continue onto Saratoga Rd.
- Turn Right onto Kalakaua Ave.
- Turn Left onto Kapahulu Ave.
- Turn Left onto Lemon Rd. to return to the shop
