Tantalus
Tantalus (or Pu’u ‘Ōhi’a in Hawaiian) is a beautiful mountain ride right in the center of Honolulu. This half day ride is not hugely popular for other tours because the roads are too narrow for tour buses, but it’s perfect for an experienced rider. Get ready for winding turns and cut backs through the rainforest with unobstructed panoramic views of Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, and the Punchbowl Cemetery. Check out some of the trails and stop for a hike along the way!
After enjoying the views, head Northwest to Pearl Harbor or take a ride around Diamond Head and Cruise the Crater.
DIRECTIONS:
- Turn Right onto Paoakalani Ave.
- Turn Left onto Ala Wai Blvd and follow the Ala Wai Canal.
- Turn Right onto MCCully St. at the McCully Bridge and continue straight over the H-1 freeway.
- Turn Left onto Wilder Ave.
- Turn Right onto Makiki St.
- Stay to the Right when Makiki St. splits at the triangle park.
- Slight Left onto Round Top Drive. From this point, you’ll follow the mountain road for three miles until you reach Pu’u Ualaka’a State Park, where you’ll enjoy full panoramic views of Honolulu from the park’s lookout.
- Continue climbing the mountain through the Round Top Forest Reserve, or come back into town the same way you came.
- Head back into Waikiki via Makiki St when you reach the bottom of Round Top Drive.
- Turn Left onto Wilder Ave.
- Turn Right onto McCully St. and continue over the H-1 freeway and the McCully Bridge into Waikiki.
- Turn Left onto Kalākaua Ave. and follow it through the main Waikiki Strip.
- Turn Left onto Kapahulu Ave.
- Turn Left onto Lemon Road to return your bikes to the shop.
