Cruise the Crater
We recommend taking a ride around Diamond Head before you hike it. Enjoy a lovely three mile cruise along the Gold Coast. The hike is moderate and consists of 170 stairs. Just print this map, follow the markers, and have fun. Reservations are required to do the hike which can be made Here. Don’t forget your sunscreen!
After this sunny hike, try taking the Hanauma Bay Snorkel Tour, or for more adventure, try hiking to Manoa Falls.
DIRECTIONS:
- Turn Right onto Paoakalani Ave.
- Turn Right onto Cartwright Ave.
- Turn Right on Kapahulu Ave. and head towards the ocean.
- Turn Left on Kalākaua Ave. Ride past the Waikiki Aquarium and the War Memorial on the right, and Kapi’olani Park on the left. After the water fountain, continue straight and explore the historic homes on Coconut Ave. until it intersects Diamond Head Road.
- Turn Right on Diamond Head Road. Climb to the top of Diamond Head Road where views of local surfers and the Diamond Head Lighthouse await.
- Slight Left to stay on Diamond Head Road when you approach Fort Ruger Park.
- Continue along Diamond Head Road around the Crater to the entrance of Diamond Head State Monument. Park on the inside of the crater and hike up to the top for awesome views of Waikiki and Honolulu. When you’re done hiking, head down Monsarrat Ave. for a healthy lunch at one of the many local eateries.
- Turn Left to exit Diamond Head State Monument and continue straight onto Monsarrat Ave.
- Turn right on Paki Ave.
- Turn left on Kapahulu Ave.
- Turn right on Lemon Road to return your bikes to the shop.
